WORD perfect youngsters from Chester Catholic High School have reached the final of the 2011 Times Spelling Bee competition.

Ahana Banerjee, 11, Grace Tierney, 11, Will Lannin, 12, and reserve Tom Campbell, 12 beat tough competition at the semi final to reach the final.

The team showed off their mastery by successfully spelling words such as eloquent and harlequin.

Teacher Adam Wilson said: “I’m speechless! I’m just really happy and very proud!”

Grace Tierney said: “It was amazing getting through to the semi finals and it’s even better now as we’re off to London for the grand final!”

The winning teams from the 10 semi finals will travel to London to compete in the final at the IndigO2 at the O2 Arena in London on Thursday June 23.

More than 1,200 schools competed in local heats across the country.
