Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was struck over the head and robbed of her mobile phone as she was packing items into her car.

The 64-year-old victim was on the driveway of an address in Bache Hall Estate, Chester, when she was struck from behind on the back of her head by an unknown man at about 11.30am on Friday.

She turned around to see a man wielding a wooden cosh type weapon. The offender then demanded her mobile phone before making off with it.

The man is described as white, about 60 years of age, with grey hair and a beard.

He was six feet tall and wearing a black fleece top, black trousers and black shoes. He is believed to have left the area driving an old-style pale blue or green coloured car.

The victim was treated for minor injuries at the nearby Countess of Chester Hospital.
