HISTORY enthusiasts in Tarporley and Bunbury have set up a local history society.
The society is expected to have speakers over the forthcoming months on such social history subjects as housing and health, poverty and welfare or education and policing in days gone by, or on cultural aspects from local dialect to horse-racing and the hunt.
Peter Young said: “Tarporley and Bunbury are ancient parishes with far more of interest to the local historian than in many others, and both have been extremely significant to the nation on occasions. Indeed, at one time, the area from Tarvin to Malpas had the highest agricultural Gross Domestic Product in the UK.
“Many of the men were recruited by the Black Prince before the Battle of Shrewsbury.”
Visits to centres of local history interest will also be offered.
The inaugural meeting will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday, February 22, at Tiverton Village Hall.
