Labour leader in Cheshire councillor Sam Dixon has picked up a national award.

Cllr Dixon was given a merit certificate at the Labour Party’s annual conference in Brighton.

Cheshire West and Chester was the only council in England that the Labour Party won control of from the Tories at the local elections this May.

The Labour group was recognised by the national party for the hard work and creativity of their campaign.

Cllr Dixon said: “This award is recognition of years of hard work put in by hundreds of Labour activists across Cheshire West. The Labour Group was pleased to buck the national trend and take control of the borough in May.

“Receiving this award puts our achievement on the map. But most of all we have to thank the people of Cheshire West who put their trust in us. We will do our best for them.”
