Lolly the dog was jokingly revealed on Twitter as Cheshire  Police’s ‘new recruit’ – but in fact the cute 10-month-old chihuahua was just visiting.

Lollipop, known as ‘Lolly’, belongs  to Fiona Jackson, wife of Sergeant Alex Jackson from the Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit.

The team’s Twitter feed, complete with photos, reported: “B Block on training day today and we’ve had a little visitor to Blacon Police Station.”

Another posting read: “Lolly’s been a very busy doggie this morning, sending our patrols out to jobs.”

And ‘meet our new recruit’ was the caption next to one of the adorable pictures of the tiny pooch.

Sergeant Jackson came clean to The Chronicle: “Lollipop is actually my wife’s – I wouldn’t admit to her being mine!

“She isn’t going to be a police dog, but she was brought into work for a visit, hence the photographs and the attempt at humour.

“The jacket was a personal purchase, not issued.

“She is a 10 month-old chihuahua  and although there are funny stories, none involve the police!”
