EVERYONE can get involved in the new children’s and teens literature festival – GobbleDEEbook, taking place from October 23-31 in St Mary’s Centre in Chester.

The interactive events in the festival start with a workshop with South African performer Sizwe Vilakazi.

Sizwe is coming to Chester especially from South Africa to provide workshops for schools in the lead up the festival.

However, he will also provide two workshops during the festival on Sunday, October 24 at 11am and Saturday, October 30 at 10.30am.

Children will be taken into Sizwe’s world and join in with this high energy workshop learning traditional African dance and physical storytelling tricks using a mixture of Zulu and English, helping these stories come to life in front of you. Aimed at ages 5-11 this is a great way to keep the children entertained.

If your children fancy themselves as authors then Becky Adams’ event is for you.

Becky will help children create their very own teeny tiny books, filling them with magic spells and more.

If your children like to draw, the monster drawing workshop on Thursday, October 28 at 1pm is for you, when illustrator Tom Percival will help your little monsters create their own little monsters.

Fancy dress and a celebratory party are the last event in the festival at a Horrid Henry party.

Celebrate with favourite children’s character Horrid Henry with storytelling, prizes and lots more activities on Saturday, October 30 at 3pm.

Jess Egan, co-artistic director, said: “We want children to get involved in all the events we produce so it’s about creating and making, which helps them engage with books and reading. With tickets at £1 per event per child it’s a great way to entertain during the half term.”

Tickets and more details can be found online by visiting the brand new website www.gobbledeebook.com or over the phone on 0845 2417868 or in person at the Visitor Information Centre by the Town Hall.
