Brutus the cat is making a good recovery from his recent illness and is back at his usual perch at Morrisons in Saltney, but his owners are pleading with shoppers not to feed him anything that will interfere with his medication.

The popular tabby, who found local fame sitting in the same spot outside the supermarket doors, has had a tough week battling an illness affecting his kidneys, sparking an outbreak of concern from the public who are used to seeing him every day.

Brutus' Facebook page has more than 9,000 'likes' and his fans come from as far afield as Australia, Taiwan and America.

Happily, the cat's owners Claire and Adam Owens say he is now feeling ‘a lot brighter’ and is back to his normal self but have emphasised how important it is that he doesn’t eat anything other than his prescription diet.

Claire told The Chronicle: “Brutus will never recover because kidneys don’t heal. It is just a case of giving him daily medication and making sure he eats nothing but his special prescription diet. So it’s just really important people that don’t feed him anything because it could drastically shorten his life and make him really poorly if they do.

“Morrisons are going to put up notices to ask people not to feed him. I’ve also asked for water to be left out for him as it’s important he has constant access as he’s drinking more than usual and needs to keep his kidneys going as best they can,” she explained.

“It’s so amazing to have my boy back home. I missed him.”
