Police searching for Nantwich man Roy Tomlinson have discovered a body in an outbuilding in Wellington Road.
While formal identification has not yet taken place, officers say the description and clothing of the deceased matches that of 83-year-old Roy, who has not been since shortly before 5pm on January 26 when he walked out of Brookfield House care home in Shrewbridge Road.
A spokesman for Cheshire police said: “At 10.50am today (Tuesday, February 2) the body of a man was discovered in the outbuilding of a house in Wellington Road, Nantwich.
“The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The description and clothing of the deceased matches that of missing man Roy Tomlinson although formal identification has not yet taken place. His family have been made aware.
“A post mortem will take place in due course. There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a file will prepared for the coroner.
“We would like to thank the media and members of the public for their assistance in publicising this appeal.”
Since Roy’s disappearance, a team of trained search officers have been deployed in the area, along with the underwater search team and the dog unit. Assistance was also given by volunteers at Cheshire Search and Rescue and colleagues from the National Police Air Service.
Dozens of residents also joined in the search, with thousands of people sharing the appeal to find him on social media.
