Armed police swooped on Elm Square in Lache on Wednesday evening (April 22).

Officers were called to the scene at 5.30pm following concerns for the safety of a 41-year-old man, who had intimated that he was carrying a firearm.

The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital to be assessed.

A spokesman for Cheshire Constabulary said: " As a precaution, armed officers were deployed to the scene.

"Due to a number of people in the area they established a cordon around the scene to ensure the safety of the public.

"No firearm or other weapon was found at the scene."
