APPROVAL was granted for the use of part of a small field as a tennis court.

The application for the 35m by 17m court, enclosed by a high wire mesh fence, was put forward by Robin Greenway at Cross Lanes Farm, Cross Lanes in Tarvin.

No objections were raised by Tarvin Parish Council or by neighbours.

The key question, suggested planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council, was the loss of agricultural land and the effect of the tennis court on the surrounding landscape.

They pointed out the paddock was in front of Cross Lanes Farm and was cut off.

There would be no loss of the best and most versatile agricultural land.

A previous application was withdrawn as it would have encroached into the countryside, according to a report.

The tennis court, with a green, porous hard surface, would be over 40m from the nearest property and would be partly screened.

Planners did not believe there would be any unacceptable noise or loss of privacy.

Parish councillors raised the issue of overhead electricity lines at the site and it was agreed that Mr Greenway should be made aware of the restrictions involved.

The application was granted permission.
