A 52-year-old man allegedly kidnapped and raped an 11-year-old girl from Ellesmere Port.

Paul Ripley, of no fixed address, was charged after the victim was reported missing from her home at 9.47pm on November 7.

Cheshire Police launched an extensive local search to find the 11-year-old.

The girl was found in a small village near Darlington, some 150 miles away in County Durham, at about 1.45am the next day.

Ripley was arrested a short time later after his car was stopped by motorway police on the M6 near Preston.

The 52-year-old is charged with kidnap, two counts of rape of a female under 13 and dangerous driving.

He appeared at Chester Magistrates Court for a first hearing on November 10.

Ripley was remanded in custody and will appear at Chester Crown Court on November 24.
