Chester MP Stephen Mosley has been appointed Small Business Ambassador for the North West and North Wales by the Prime Minister.
David Cameron invited Mr Mosley to join him at 10 Downing Street to meet small business owners from the North West and celebrate the contribution which Britain’s entrepreneurs make to our economy.
This new role builds on the MP’s previous career as a small business owner, his work supporting business in Parliament, and role on the Science & Technology Select Committee, examining the impact that innovation has on business start-ups.
“This is a cause which is close to my heart” said Mr Mosley.
“Small businesses are huge contributors to our economy with SMEs making up 99.9% of all private businesses. They are key drivers of growth, and an area which Government is focussing on to achieve long term sustainable and balanced growth.
“This entrepreneurial streak is especially evident in Chester, where our streets and Rows have traditionally been filled with independent boutiques, and Chester’s garages and spare bedrooms now harbour innovative 21st century e-businesses.”
Since he was appointed, Mr Mosley has undertaken to visit as many small businesses in Chester as possible and got the ball rolling by visiting Backford Belles Ice Cream Farm, CMC International on Watergate Street and Chester’s market traders, to name but a few.
The Chester MP has also spoken to the local Chamber of Commerce and Council to discuss improving Chester’s economic environment for small businesses.
“Starting a new business can be a daunting and lonely to begin with, but it is easier to get started or grow a fledgling business if you know what facilities, resources and support networks are available. I am keen to ensure that our local entrepreneurs know who to approach when they need advice.”
Recently published research shows that businesses who take external advice at key stages in their development, grow faster than those who do not.
So to kick start his new role Mr Mosley is hosting a Small Business Fair for new start-ups and budding entrepreneurs.
The event will be held at the Riverside Innovation Centre, an incubator hub for new start-ups, on September 18 and will feature a variety of interactive workshops teaching essential business skills, talks from successful new entrepreneurs and a one-stop shop advice centre.
Small business start-ups in Chester are now at an all time high and Mr Mosley is keen to ensure this trend continues.

Stephen Mosley has been confirmed as the Conservative candidate for the 2015 General Election.
Mr Mosley was re-adopted in a secret ballot of local party members and the result was a unanimous endorsement of the MP who won the seat from Labour in 2010.
He said: “I am humbled by the support I have received not just in this secret ballot of members but from the public at large.”
