BB CREAM short for blemish balm or blemish base is amongst the hottest, most discussed, and most coveted beauty products on the market right now.
For anyone whos been living under a rock, the miracle BB cream formula despite sounding like a euphemism for spot cream - combines the benefits of skin care and makeup in one simple step by acting as a moisturiser, primer, concealer (for minor imperfections), and a light foundation to provide an even, natural-looking complexion. Most BB formulas also provide anti-aging properties and sun protection.
Perhaps the most impressive function of this cream though, is the skin regenerating properties that aid the healing process of acne scars, blemishes, and dark spots. Some users of the cream have been bowled over by the improved condition of their skin after just a few weeks of use. This is all thanks to the medical origins of the cream.
Indeed, the regenerative effect of the BB formula dates back to 1967 when the original ointment version of BB cream was invented by German dermatologist, Christine Schrammek.
It was intended for use on patients who had undergone laser skin surgery as the regenerative properties helped to keep sensitive skin healthy and moisturised after treatment, whilst the
light formula was intended to evenly cover red laser scarring without blocking the pores.
BB cream was popularised for cosmetic purposes by Korean TV stars who fell in love with the product after discovering the healthy glow, improved tone and texture, and fantastic moisture that it brought to their skin after using it. The craze spread to Europe in the summer of 2011 after large beauty brands developed their own BB formulas. Now the miracle in a tube is available for use on a variety of skin types, making skin solutions accessible to everyone.
For mature skin, Face it Magic Cover BB Cream is formulated to increase skins elasticity and firmness; for oily skin, theres a formula called Hydro Splash which is mainly water-
based so you dont have to worry about oil build-up; and for the gentlemen there are brands such as BRTC and Neo Classic Homme which as men produce more sebum than women control oil production, whilst leaving skin looking healthy and refreshed.
I have dry skin and use Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector and Missha M Perfect Cover BB creams both of which I love. Both creams leave my skin looking dewy and healthy. I love
that the BB formula acts like a foundation but is actually doing my skin good whilst Im wearing it, and you cant even tell I have any makeup on. My morning skin care and makeup routine now takes place in around 2 minutes perfect.
Although it works like a dream for me, there are two instances in which I imagine that the formula would not work for others. Firstly, if youre looking for a considerably
heavy coverage, then you may find that BB cream is too light in consistency. The cream provides only a light to medium coverage. If this is the case, you may be best using this as a moisturiser and primer before applying your regular foundation over the top for extra coverage.
Secondly, BB creams only seem to be available in a limited selection of colours. Companies say that this is because of the Asian trend for lighter skin. Thus, it is difficult if not
impossible to find this product in a shade that compliments darker skin tones. It would definitely be an advantage if more colour ranges were to be invented. Hopefully, after the
increasing popularity of BB cream, brands will develop a larger spectrum of shades.
Ultimately, if youre looking to minimise your skin care routine and get healthy, natural looking skin with less imperfections, then BB cream could be the product for you. I just
cleanse and tone my face and let BB cream take care of the rest. For me, this is definitely a miracle in a tube and my new best friend. My skin has honestly never looked as natural,
dewy, and soft as when I am wearing BB cream.
