FOOTBALL is coming home for writer Sarah McDonald Hughes, when her play comes to Whitby Hall on Saturday.
Playwright Sarah’s grandmother used to dance in Ellesmere Port and her family has a long connection with the town.
“It means a lot to me to bring the production here,” she said.
“Sadly my nan died in January but she knew about the play doing well.
“And I have lots of family here who will be coming to give support.”
Maine Road is a passionate story about football, family and treasured bricks and mortar.
Sarah added: “It’s about a teenage boy who is having a hard time.
“His family is in mourning for grandma and there are problems.
“Football is his life and he’s an avid Manchester City fan.
“But he feels let down when the team leaves the old Maine Road stadium for a new one across the city.
“Awful things start happening. But it’s not all doom and gloom. It is very funny, too, and hopeful.”
Tickets to Maine Road cost £8, £5 concessions, and are available from the Stanney Lane venue or by ringing 0151 357 2120.
