ROYAL Chester Rowing Club has been given a helping hand from another of the city’s premier and long-standing sporting organisations.
Chester Race Company has provided a grant of £2,500 to the club to upgrade its facilities.
The grant has enabled Royal Chester to modernise its women’s changing rooms and undertake much-needed repairs on two of its boat trailers.
The former has gone down well with the women’s section at the club, which ranges in age from 12 to 60, while the latter will allow crews to continue to travel across the UK and overseas, increasing their medal count and continuing Royal’s legacy as a top-level centre for rowing.
A club spokesperson said: “Royals look forward to a mutually beneficial long-term relationship with Chester Racecourse to sustain the facility for current and future oarsmen and women in the North West.”
During the last two years, Royals, which was established in 1838, has attracted a raft of new members thanks to its open door policy. This has proved especially popular with young rowers, with Royal’s junior section now boasting more than 40 members.
