Martial arts: Andy earns difficult black belt grading

A KARATE instructor who has been training for 28 years is one of just four people this year to be awarded his sixth Dan black belt.

Chester’s Andy Brown teaches at the Aaisatsu Karate Club based in the Northgate Arena and passed the tests required to achieve the grade at the first attempt.

“Very few people achieve what Andy has,” said fellow Aaisatsu instructor Gary Blundell, a fifth Dan. “Andy has devoted a lot of time and energy to it. The exams test every aspect of your knowledge of the art, its heritage, human physiology. It is a major undertaking.”
