Liverpool FC manager Kenny Dalglish against bringing back standing to football stadiums

KENNY DALGLISH disagrees with the decision to bring terracing back in Scottish football.

The Scottish Premier League this week voted in favour of trialing safe standing areas at top flight grounds, with Celtic amongst those believed to be considering the move.

Re-introducing terracing into the game north of the border would see a relaxation of a rule dating back to 1994 when the Scottish game adopted the findings of the Taylor report, which was written in the wake of the Hillsborough disaster.

Naturally, the tragedy of April 1989 was at the forefront of Dalglish’s thinking when asked about the developments in his homeland this week.

“Our thoughts are still the same,” said the Liverpool manager.

“We would prefer the all-seater stadium.

“I don’t think there’s any need for us to change our mind from what it was in 1989.

“I have the same position as it was then.”

The Premier League have said there will be no such move in England.

“The bottom line is that it is illegal under the legislation that was brought in after Hillsborough,” said Premier League spokesman, Dan Johnson.

“We can’t have standing in the Premier League and the Championship and it’s not a situation we would like to see change.”
