Cheshire Constabulary discovered more than 300 bikes at farm in Hargrave, near Chester.

HUNDREDS of cyclists could be back on the road after police uncovered a huge cache of bicycles on a Cheshire farm.

More than 300 bikes, many believed to be stolen, were discovered by officers from Cheshire Constabulary at a lock-up storage facility in Hargrave.

It is not yet confirmed whether every bike found at the farm was being stored unlawfully but police have arrested a 49-year-old male from Blacon on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

Inspector Phil Hodgson, who is in charge of the Western Rural Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said that targeting thieves was a priority for his team.

He said: “We employ a variety of methods to retrieve our information, including informants and members of the public. We will continue to crack down on a market that is fuels theft.

“Anyone who believes their stolen bike may be part of this seizure can contact us to arrange a viewing. Anyone claiming a bike will need proof that it is theirs.”

The collection of bikes, which has now been seized and placed in a secure location, include a range of bike styles and ages, including a rare motorised push bike.

An operation was carried out at both the farm in Hargrave and at a premises on Jonathan’s Way in Blacon where two warrants were executed.

Insp Steve Beddows, of the Chester Outer Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “Handling stolen goods encourages thefts and break-ins and we will continue to carry out warrants on premises we have reason to believe are being used to store these goods.”

Police are now appealing to members of the public to come forward and identify the bikes.

Anyone who wants to view the bikes can contact Kevin Ferguson on 01244 612692.
