It has been a year to test the mettle of every business. Excellent companies have had to cut back their operations, or even gone out of business.
But there are plenty of examples in Cheshire of business heroes and heroines who have risen to the challenges created by the recession.
It is innovation and enterprise coupled with good management and excellent workforces which are seeing companies through such difficult economic months and ensuring there are plenty of candidates for accolades in this years Cheshire Business Awards.
The sixth Cheshire Business Awards organised by Trinity Mirror Cheshire, publishers of the Chester Chronicle series of newspapers, provides the opportunity to highlight the achievements of entrepreneurs, managers and staff whose expertise and energy generate the wealth of our community.
The Business 'Oscars' will be a wonderful occasion to take time out in a difficult year to celebrate some hard won success - and this year moves to a new venue, the Queen Hotel opposite Chester railway station.
Cheshire enjoys an envious reputation for lifestyle and wealth. But it is a prosperity based on enterprise and innovation supported by hard working and flexible staff.
It will be a night where we can all identify success and endeavour, where small businesses mix with big businesses, where contacts can be made and perhaps new ideas born. A night reported in the pages of our local newspapers across Cheshire to remind our communities who are creating employment and prosperity.
