The countdown is on to the three-day Boodles May Festival at Chester Races.

Chester is well known as a glamorous racing venue and the May Festival is always eagerly anticipated every year by people across the city. After months of preparing the turf, the jockeys, the horses, and of course, the ladies' outfits, the stage is set for the first race of the season which will be held on May 6.

To make it easier for you to know what race is being held and when, we've put together this guide that gives you information on exactly what's happening and what to expect.

Wednesday May 6 - The Betway Chester Cup Day

As the longest race run at Chester with the biggest field each year, the Chester Cup is the highlight of the year. Although many horses have famously won the race twice, no horse has ever won three times.

Starting from 11.30am, ticket prices for Cup Day on the County Concourse cost £46.00, £35.00 for the Tattersalls and Paddock, £13.00 for the Dee Enclosure and £10.00 for Open Course.

Some areas of the racecourse are casual, but you must adhere to a smart dress code if you are going in the County stand. For gents, this means a suit jacket, collar and tie; for ladies it's a smart dress and no denim or trainers.

Again, men are expected to wear a suit jacket, collar and tie; for ladies it's a smart dress and no denim or trainers.

Ladies Day kicks off at 11.30am with tickets for the County Concourse costing £50.00, Tattersalls and Paddock £35.00, Dee Enclosure £14.00 and Open Course £10.00.
