EXHIBITIONS

CHESTER: September 15-21 - The Chester Film Co-op, which has its temporary premises next door to Chester’s Odeon building on Northgate Street, hosts a new exhibition of original drawings by local artist Howard Gardener in its Studio 2 gallery. There will be 21 original drawings on display, plus some three-dimensional sculptures all taken from his book A Roomful of Wires.

CHESTER: September 12-October 12 - All Sorts and Conditions by Anna Reeve at Handel’s Court Gallery in Northgate Street. This show represents much of Anna’s work over the last 25 years, work either taken from sketches or a development of the sketch itself.

CHESTER: May 24-autumn - Buildings, Battles and Bodies: A History of Heronbridge - discovered in 1929, the site has revealed some amazing secrets. Visitors can begin by exploring the Roman origins of Heronbridge, where a settlement was established on the edge of the River Dee close to the fortress at Chester. Then jump forward to the 7th century and the Battle of Chester to investigate Heronbridge’s fortified enclosure and mass grave. The display can be seen in Exhibition Gallery One at Grosvenor Museum.

CHESTER: Until 2015 - Motherhood - this small exhibition explores the role of motherhood between 1860 and 1960 with interpretation extending into the surrounding period rooms. Recognising that the role is not always fulfilled by the biological mother, the exhibition examines the themes of baby and child care, home making and time out. Through objects, costumes and ephemera, the exhibition considers the roles of motherhood, labour saving equipment and the implications of social developments during a century of enormous change, in the Grosvenor Museum Costume Gallery.

FRODSHAM: September 24-November 5 - Finney and Fox; Fetlock, Feather and Fur brings together the work of Alsager wildlife artist David A Finney and Chester-based equine artist June Lesley Fox at Castle Park Arts Centre. Visit www.castleparkarts.co.uk.

LIVERPOOL: July 3- September 21 - A solo exhibition by Aiko Miyanaga at the Liverpool Central Library, organised by White Rainbow, a London gallery for contemporary and post-war art from Japan. Aiko Miyanaga is known for her site-specific installations, using ephemeral materials such as salt and naphthalene. She now teaches at the Kyoto University of Art and Design (KUAD) and her artworks for this solo exhibition were made together with 13 KUAD students.
