Chester schoolgirl Beau Dermott insists she's 'not really thinking about winning' Britain's Got Talent as she gears up for the show's semi-finals tonight.

The 12-year-old Hammond School student will be back on our screens showing why she sailed straight into the semi-finals back in April, after wowing judges with her rendition of the song Defying Gravity from the musical Wicked.

Judge Amanda Holden was so impressed by Beau's performance that she hit the golden buzzer to send the youngster straight through to the semi-finals, while David Walliams told her: "Everyone else might as well just go home, because that was incredible."

Even Wicked singer Idina Menzel said Beau's version of her song gave her 'chills' , writing on social media: "OMG! Beau Dermott, you gave me chills with your performance of Defying Gravity on Britain's Got Talent!"

But Beau, from Widnes, remains laid back about her chances, telling OK! magazine: "I'm going to give it my best shot but I'm not really thinking about winning. I like Wayne [Woodward], and Jasmine [Elock] and the Garnetts. And Trip Hazard, I love a doggy act.

"I wouldn't be bothered if he beat me as he's just so cute," she added.

Beau will also be up against Rudheath singer Brett Sinclair, a member of the Collaborative Orchestra and Singers.

The group stunned the judges and audience with a flash mob audition as member after member of the group appeared all around the auditorium playing various instruments and singing.

Controversy

Beau, from Widnes, has not been without controversy; last month she was the focus of a page one story in the Daily Star under the headline “BGT NEW ‘CHEAT’ STORM”.

The Star said Beau was ‘hiding’ the fact she has attended stage school from the show’s judges and viewers, preferring to give the impression she was a nervous novice singer.

The newspaper claimed that Beau had singing lessons once a month for the past four years with the Warrington-based academy StagePro, while she is also a former winner of Halton’s Got Talent and Warrington’s Got Talent.

However, the claims drew a strong response from Britain’s Got Talent.

A spokesman for the show said: “This story is ridiculous. Beau had singing lessons once a month for the past four years at Stage Pro Academy. Just because she has had singing lessons, it doesn’t mean that she doesn’t get nervous when performing as was stated on the show.

As for her nerves before performing, Beau described her experience as 'just unreal'.

"It's like a dream come true. As soon as the music starts, my nerves just fall away and I get into character," she said.
