Organisers of the world’s biggest inflatable obstacle course are ‘dead’ excited to bring Gung-Ho! back to the north-west – with a spooky twist.
Up to 5,000 runners will take on ten of the world’s most exciting obstacles in the dead of night - including Europe’s tallest inflatable slide and the world’s largest inflatable obstacle - at the Gung-Ho! Spooktacular.
Runners will be chased around by dozens of zombies at the event on Saturday, November 5 at Oulton Park racing circuit, Cheshire.
The family-friendly evening – held to coincide with Guy Fawkes night - will also feature a spectacular fireworks display and bonfire, as well a Halloween-themed marquee, music, dancers, ghosts, ghouls and spooky activities for people of all ages.
About 5,000 tickets are on sale to take part in the race, which allows access to the entire spooky evening.
Another 5,000 tickets are available for just the fireworks display and festivities, put on by Oulton Park as part of their Neil Howard Stage Rally day.
Gung-Ho! creator and Cbeebies presenter Alex Winters said: “We can’t wait to see lots of people taking part in the zombie run, including children who can do it an earlier time in the day.
“However, equally we are putting a huge effort into making the whole evening one that everyone will never forget.
“I remember seeing some incredible fireworks displays and bonfires as a child, and I want to give people young and old the chance to create some similar, magical memories.”
On the ‘zombie run’ across the inflatables he added: “I am so excited - I’m a complete zombie geek!
“I have read all the Walking Dead comics and seen all the series – I love them. When we came up with the Gung-Ho! idea within about 24 hours I had thought about doing it as a zombie run.
“Last year we just didn’t have the time, but now it is actually going to happen and I am so excited because there really will be something for everyone at this event.
“We have held Gung-Ho! events before in Manchester and Liverpool, and the atmosphere at both was so incredible we wanted to come back to the region as soon as possible.
”We can’t wait to visit again and spook-out the north-west!”
Alex came up with the idea for an inflatable obstacle course while sat in front of the TV watching an episode of Ninja Warrior, and that idea spawned Gung-Ho!’s first three events in 2015.
The events have also raised tens of thousands of pounds for charity, with money going to various local charities partners across the country and to national partner Children In Need.
To take part in the Spooktacular, runners must be at least 4ft tall. Entrants receive a free bib with race number, Gung-Ho! glow-in- the-dark t-shirt and headband, while any spectators can attend for free and enjoy the food stalls and music.
Individuals can experience the whole evening for just £35, or the fireworks and bonfire for £5, while family tickets for the whole event – for two adults and three children – cost £100, with prices going up in September. Spectators under five go free.
