A Cheshire Oaks attraction is running a series of ‘Silver Surfer’ offers for over 60s in the run up to Christmas.

For the next three Tuesdays (November 29, December 6 and 13) Blue Planet Aquarium is offering anyone aged 60 or over admission for just £1.

As part of the deal, older people can also buy tickets which include fish, chips and mushy peas plus a drink and bread and butter for a total purchase price of just £7.25 at the till.

There will also be a discount in the aquarium’s gift shop of 5% if they spend over £5 and 10% with all purchases over £10.

Blue Planet Aquarium’s Phil Jones said: “Aquariums have traditionally been seen as a place for young families to visit but recently we have seen a significant increase in the numbers of more mature visitors.

“We decided this £1 initiative would be a great way to provide both existing and new customers with an extra incentive to come and see what we have to offer them.

“Our visitor services team particularly enjoy giving talks to older groups as the level of feedback is always high and they’re often able to go into more details about specific subjects.”

Home to more than 100 living displays in 14 themed zones, the aquarium says it offers a whole world of underwater discovery.

At its heart is the incredible 3.8m litre Caribbean Reef display, complete with a 230ft underwater tunnel, which houses one of Europe’s largest collections of sharks including three-metre-long sand tiger sharks. Other displays are home to everything from mudskippers and archer fish to lionfish and moray eels.

There are daily aquatheatre shows where visitors can watch the divers through a huge underwater viewing window as they feed the fish.
