Made famous by the 1989 movie adaptation which starred Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley Maclaine and Julia Roberts, this is a heart-warming and bittersweet comedy, set in a Louisiana hairdressing salon. Award-winning folk duo Megson in concert at Cilcain Parish Church on Saturday. 15. Memorial Court opening
Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies MBE will officially open the multi-million pound Memorial Court leisure centre on Saturday during an event which features dozens of free activities for all the family. The occasional TV presenter is set to host a question and answer session with members of Northwich Centurions Swimming Club and will officially launch their gala before an official plaque unveiling ceremony at 3pm, followed by an opportunity for the public to meet with Davies for autographs and photographs. Activities include wet ‘n’ wild pool sessions, fitness classes, demonstrations by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, a performance from the Air Cadet band, competitions, workshops and children’s activities.
