CHESTER: September 5-26 - After a year long project looking at the work of Victorian architect John Douglas the group Working Title Artists Collective bring a display of his work back to St Peter’s Church Chester. John Douglas is noted as one of Chester’s most prolific architects with sole responsibility for much of St Werburgh Street and the area around Bath Street. The cllective has been working with local historians and Cheshire residents to create drawing tours, a children’s film about John Douglas and Victorian sound scapes.

CHESTER: August 10-November 3 - Distant Voices: From Iceland to Viking Wirral - driven by the distant voices of once Viking Wirral, in 2009 artist and poet Sylvia Hikins took pen and brush 1,000 miles north to Iceland and discovered a wild expanse of ice, fire, mountain and sea. Drawn back many times since, her poetry, landscape paintings and dramatic photographs depict a country that both forbids and invites. From the sandstone spirits and mud flats of the River Dee to the erupting Eyjafjallajokull, this is a visual feast in the Grosvenor Museum Exhibition Gallery Two.

MOLD: September 7-October 12 - Petrified in Storyland by Zoe Childerley - a series of images by photographic artist Zoe Childerley. The series originated as part of Childerley's time as an artist in residency at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, and explores the relationship between Welsh mythology and cultural identity, seeking to uncover the visual residues of this national mythology within the landscape. It examines the ways in which mythology has been co-opted as part of the national identity, and how folkloric stories and characters have, thus, been politically manipulated. Throughout, Childerley collaborated with Welsh people whose work involves aspects of mythology, reflecting a personal connection to landscape by means of stories passed down through the generations.
