Stephen Schwartz’s hit musical Wicked has finally taken flight from the West End on its first ever UK tour.

Based on the novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire, the show tells the untold story of the witches of OZ, providing an alternative glimpse at the life of the Wicked Witch of the West, Elphaba, and how she became ‘wicked’.

Nikki Davis-Jones is a joy to watch in the lead role of Elphaba, the girl who was born green and has unexplicable powers when overcome by her emotions, which draws the attention of the Wizard of Oz.

Her finest moment comes during the undeniable classic Defying Gravity when she can be seen soaring above the stage before the interval.

Emily Tierney shines as Galinda/Glinda, the good witch who sails onto the stage in a bubble dressed like a Disney princess.

She portrays the girly, over the top vain character, who to begin with loathes Elphaba,  down to a tee.

One of her finest moment comes during Popular when she steals the stage and has the audience laughing.

This show is a must see, not only for those who didn’t see it in the capital, but even those who did.

It’s humorous, entertaining, has fabulous costumes and dancing, a great storyline and fabulous musical score.

Wicked is on at the Palace Theatre, Manchester. For tickets visit www.atgtickets.com
