Fans of Sir Matthew Bourne will be delighted to hear that his acclaimed new ballet The Red Shoes is coming to Liverpool this summer.

The New Adventures production, which is currently playing to sell-out audiences at Sadler’s Wells in London, will visit the Liverpool Empire in June.

Tickets for the show go on pre-sale to ATG Theatre Card members at 10am on Wednesday, and general public sale this Friday (January 13).

The Red Shoes is based on the famous Oscar-winning Powell and Pressburger film starring Moira Shearer, and has inspired generations of dancers with its tale of obsession, possession and one girl’s dream to be the greatest dancer in the world.

Bourne is working with regular collaborators, Liverpool set and costume designer Lez Brotherston, Paule Constable (lighting) and Paul Groothuis (sound) on the production, with a new score arranged by Terry Davies.

Ashley Shaw plays Victoria Page, the part made famous by Moira Shearer, sharing the role with Cordelia Braithwaite and Katrina Lyndon.

And Sam Archer, who was Bourne’s original Edward Scissorhands, will play Sevengali-like impresario Boris Lermontov, alongside Chris Trenfield.

Dominic North is also in the production.
