The great grandson of Charles Dickens is coming to Chester to perform his relative's most famous Christmas story.

There may be nothing unusual about staging A Christmas Carol at this time of year, but the performance which takes place at Chester Town Hall is certain to have added authenticity.

Gerald Dickens is the great grandson of Charles Dickens himself and has received standing ovations all over the world for his presentation of A Christmas Carol.

Using his own adaptation of the classic festive tale, Gerald plays more than 30 characters using his vocal and physical talents to bring each scene vividly to life.

He created this one man show in 1993, inspired by the energetic readings of the story given by Charles himself in the the 1860s.

A fascination with the life and works of his subject led him to write and direct further one-man shows including Mr Dickens is Coming!, Nicholas Nickleby and Sketches by Boz. He regularly performs in major theatres and arts centres as well as at hotels and stately homes.

He has appeared at several arts and literary festivals in the UK and has been entertaining cruise ship passengers worldwide since 2007.

A Christmas Carol can be seen at Chester Town Hall on Tuesday, December 20 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Tickets £19.50 for the matinee and £21.50 for the evening.
