Open auditions for Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be held at Chester Little Theatre on Thursday, July 16 and Friday, July 17 at 7.30pm.

Director Jane Barth said: “The dates for the production are November 14-21 – not the traditional time for Shakespeare’s Dream but it will light up the dark days of autumn.

“We want to bring out all the different elements of this marvellous play: the humour, the farcical comedy, the slapstick as well as the magic, the touching pathos and the darker side.

“Shakespeare’s setting – the forest - is a place where reality, imagination and dreams can merge. The dream-like mood is so well evoked – when everything seems chaotic and out of control, then with the awakening, reconciliation and joy return but the experiences of the night have left their mark on the characters and life is never quite the same again.

“There is a large cast and we will be looking for actors of different ages and sexes. Some of the roles could be doubled. Some of the roles which were originally written for males could be played by females. It all depends on who turns up for auditions and what they can bring to the production. We have a very open mind about casting. We want to use as much of the talent that we know is out there as we can.”

There will be an introduction and part-reading of A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Tuesday, July 14, before the auditions. If you want to know more, come along at 8pm.

Newcomers are always welcome. The Little Theatre will also be looking for people who prefer to work backstage. Go to www.chestertheatreclub.co.uk , info@chestertheatreclub.co.uk or telephone 01244 322674 for more information. Chester Little Theatre is in Gloucester Street.
