The sixth form theatre company at The King’s School in Chester are putting on a production of George Orwell’s 1984.

Focus Theatre present the dystopian novel on stage at the Vanbrugh Theatre at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18.

The story follows protagonist Winston Smith who wrestles with oppression in Oceania, a place where the party scrutinises human actions with ever-watchful Big Brother.

Defying a ban on individuality, Winston dares to express his thoughts in a diary and pursues a relationship with Julia.

These criminal deeds bring Winston into the eye of the opposition, who must then reform the nonconformist.

Tickets are free and can be obtained through The King’s School website at www.kingschester.co.uk .
