Around 50 job opportunities are on offer at Chester’s new KFC Drive Thru ready for when it opens later this summer.

Banners appealing for budding team members and cooks have gone up at the construction site in Sealand Road. Full and part-time positions are available.

Fans of finger lickin’ chicken can’t wait for the arrival of the city’s second KFC although the opening date is still a closely guarded secret. However, The Chronicle understands it will be some time in August.

A KFC spokesperson said: “We are delighted to be opening a new KFC drive thru in Chester’s Greyhound Retail Park later this year.

“The restaurant will create approximately 50 career opportunities in the community. There will be a choice of indoor and outdoor seating areas on offer to diners and we look forward to welcoming local residents”.

KFC is recruiting 50 postions for its new Drive Thru restaurant on Sealand Road

The KFC website reveals Stuart Gall, who already runs the KFC city centre outlet in Foregate Street, has the contract to run the new out-of-town franchise.

The latest unit will front Sealand Road on what was part of the car park serving Next and the disused exterior of a former garden centre.

Land owners Standard Life UK Retail Park Trust Ltd gained planning consent for the 278 sq metres unit last November.

During the application process, a few residents raised concerns about the risk of increased traffic, noise, smells, litter and anti-social behaviour.

However, conditions include the restaurant being closed overnight, with opening hours limited to 7am-11pm week days and 8am-11pm at weekends.

The victorious applicants argue the new ‘pod’ will improve the presence of the retail park and provide ‘another drive-thru’ restaurant – existing outlets are McDonald’s and Costa.

News of KFC’s expected arrival sparked a mixed-response on the Chronicle Facebook page last summer. Fan Stefan ‘stickel’ Evans said: "Just what Chester need finger licking good chicken!! Best be 24/7 I will get a taxi there after a night out no issues haha."

But opponent G David Boyd posted: "With your new drive-thru service you will see a significant increase in road side KFC rubbish. Lazy people buying and eating convenience food often are too lazy to put rubbish into a bin.”
