A magical evening awaits audiences at Chester Cathedral this Christmas.

The Neuromuscular Centre invites you to Spirit of Christmas on Friday, December 6, an evening of music and festive readings to ensure your Christmas starts with a sparkle.

More than a dozen top names from stage and screen will be performing at Spirit of Christmas 2013 at Chester Cathedral.

The confirmed line-up so far consists of Jim Carter (Mr Carson in Downton Abbey), Sir Derek Jacobi (Last Tango in Halifax, Gladiator, The King’s Speech), Kevin Doyle (Joseph Moseley in Downton Abbey), Imelda Staunton (Up the Garden Path, Professor Umbridge in the Harry Potter film series, Vera Drake), Lindsay Duncan (Wallander, Merlin, Doctor Who), Julia Deakin (Shirley in Big Bad World, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead), Reece Shearsmith (created, wrote and acted in The League of Gentleman), Penelope Wilton (Isobel Crawley in Downton Abbey, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Lesley Sharp (Scott and Bailey), Hilton McRae (Doctors, Mansfield Park).

The Spirit of Christmas carol concert is in its 18th year, and is just one of the many ways the NMS raises funds to provide vital services and employment for people with muscular dystrophy across the North West and beyond.

Muscular dystrophy is a condition that progressively weakens muscles, and for most people this means getting on with life in a wheelchair.

The centre receives virtually no government funding and costs £800,000 a year to run, so is almost entirely reliant on the generosity of individuals and the various fundraising events throughout the year to keep our vital services running.

Spirit of Christmas 2012 sold out, attracting more than 1000 audience members and raised an incredible £32,000 for the NMC.

Once more the NMC will be running the popular primary school choir competition across North Wales, Wirral and Cheshire, in association with Chester’s Dee 106.3 and sponsored by Dawsons Music.

The winning choir will be announced live on air on Friday, November 15 and will be invited to perform at the concert and mingle with the stars.

Tickets are on sale now, with prices ranging from £10- £50 (includes Champagne reception with celebrities). Contact 01606 861733 or visit www.nmcentre.com.
