A principal with the English National Opera has come to the rescue of a town’s choral society.

The Frodsham and District Choral Society (FDCS) is due to perform Handel’s Messiah on October 31 at St Laurence’s Church but a soloist soprano had to pull out last week.

Publicity secretary Morag Bragger said: “FDCS frequently hire professional soloists to perform in big works such as Messiah, but this time as well as having to compete with Halloween , we had the misfortune of the soloist soprano withdrawing at the end of last week.

“Our secretary, Margaret Rogerson, had to delve into all of her contacts to find a replacement. A regular soloist to the society, who was also unable to perform on that date, contacted her friend Linda Richardson.”

Linda is not only an English National Opera Principal but she also performs principal parts with Welsh National Opera and Opera North, plus many works abroad.

Morag added: “FDCS are thrilled that she has agreed to perform with us at such short notice. The evening will be a fabulous event with other soloists, Marcus Willliams, John Cunningham, Peter Fayle and accompanists the Northern Freelance Ensemble.”

Handel’s Messiah is at St Laurence’s Church, Frodsham on Saturday, October 31 at 7pm. Tickets are £10 from June Ross on 01928 890736 or Morag Bragger on 07845 730061.
