Chester Youth Symphony Orchestra have made their début public performance just a year after being formed.
The young musicians played to a full house at St Mary’s Creative Space on November, 25.
Invited to perform at one of Chester Music Society’s Club concerts, the evening was shared with The Queen’s Lower School Young Voices.
Conducted by John Modelski, the players played a challenging programme including pieces by Strauss, Mozart, Dvorak and Purcell.
Chester Music Society committee member and one of the main organisers of the society’s club evenings Lila Haslett said: “It was a real pleasure to be at the first public performance of Chester Youth Symphony Orchestra. The players all showed intense concentration and commitment to the music; they gave a musically mature performance and should be congratulated on their evident hard work.
“The audience thoroughly enjoyed the performance. Now that CYSO is up and running I would encourage any budding young musician to become involved in this wonderful musical initiative.”
It is the plan to grow the orchestra year on year and applications are welcome at any time throughout the year. Interested players are welcome to attend a free taster rehearsal.
Rehearsals are held in The Queen’s School, Chester on Friday evening in term-time.Applicants must be 21 or under, around Grade 5 level (although this is only an indication; there is no need to have actually taken any exams) and from any geographical location.
