Former BBC Young Musician of the Year winner, violinist Jennifer Pike, is to perform Dvorak’s Violin Concerto with the Cambrian Orchestra on Sunday, September 18 at 3pm in the William Aston Hall, Wrexham, as part of the orchestra’s 20th anniversary season.

The concert will be conducted by the former leader of the Manchester Camarata Richard Howarth and will also contain Brahms’ Tragic Overture and Tchaikovsky’s epic Symphony no 4.

Jennifer first came into the public eye in 2002 when, at 12 years of age, she became the BBC Young Musician of the Year, still the youngest ever to win the prestigious title.

Since then she has carved out a successful career as an international soloist with some of the world’s top orchestras, including all the BBC Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra.

She is a popular performer at the Royal Albert Hall in the BBC Proms concert series, having made her debut there when she was just 15 years of age.

Co-founder Matthew Ellis said: “To be able to perform with such an international star as Jennifer is a fantastic opportunity. She is one of the most recognisable and talented violinists around today and for her to agree to join us shows that, despite what some quarters might have you believe, orchestral music is very much alive and vibrant in Wrexham and North East Wales with Wrexham Symphony Orchestra, the NEW Sinfonia and ourselves all regularly performing.”

He added: “This is a wonderful way to end our 20th anniversary season. It’s wonderful for us to see how the orchestra has grown over the years and to look back at the musicians who have joined us, some of whom, such as Llŷr Williams and Garry Walker, have gone on to international success.”

Tickets are priced at £10 for the stalls (with £8 concessions) and £12 for the balcony and are available from the Tourist Information Centre and through the Glyndŵr University box office.
