The festival like no other has added more names to its autumn line-up, including one North Wales band firmly in the ascendency.

Festival Number 6, which takes place in the Italianate village of Portmeirion in Gwynedd, has announced a further tranche of artists from the world of music, literature and the arts.

Playing the main stage from September 3-6 this year are Llandudno band Catfish and the Bottlemen. Brit Award-winning crooner James Bay and Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh are also inked in to appear.

They will join the likes of Grace Jones and Belle and Sebastian for the event dubbed “a delight” by critics.

“Festival Number 6, main stage! Absolutely buzzing! Can’t wait,” said Catfish and the Bottlemen frontman Van McCann.

The Llandudno four-piece has been ripping up the music scene over the last 18 months with a top 10 album, sell-out US tour and festival appearances.

They also scooped the BBC Introducing gong at the inaugural BBC Music Awards last December.

They are already booked to play Reading, Leeds, Latitude and T In The Park festivals this year, along with events in Japan, Holland and Germany, and have just appeared at the renowned South by South-West festival in Austin, Texas.

Their singles such as Kathleen, Cocoon and Pacifier have not charted in the UK top 40 but debut album The Balcony bagged a gold disc for selling 100,000 copies.

James Bay is a singer-songwriter who has built up a strong following with his folk-blues ballads, brooding looks and self-penned guitar riffs.

Honoured at this year’s Brits with the Critics’ Choice award, Bay has just released his album which hit number one and his single Hold Back The River went to number two in the UK charts.

Author Irvine Welsh will be reading an extract from his new book A Decent Ride and discussing his life and work with Justin Robertson.

Other attractions during the festival include a stage production of Dylan Thomas’s Under Milk Wood by Kevin Allen, who directed the new film of the same name starring Celyn Jones.

Another Jones, eccentric 80s icon Grace, will be bringing her distinctive stage presence to the event, which is fast becoming one of the hot tickets of the festival calendar.

“We’re delighted to announce our second wave of artists,” said Number 6 festival director Luke Huxham.

“We’re confident this year’s line-up is going to be our biggest and most diverse yet. We can’t wait to tell everyone more about it.”
