Whether you always pick one up at every airport you visit or expect one in your Christmas stocking every year, the people of Chester are not happy.

Two versions of the triangular chocolate bars Toblerone sold in the UK now have an increased gap between peaks.

Makers Mondelez International have reduced the weight of the 400g bars to 360g and the 170g bars to 150g - yet the size of the packaging remains the same.

Twitter user Ruthie Randall @Ruthie_Randall incited rebellion with her tweet which read: "Today is a day that will go down in history. Oh, I'm not talking about the #Election2016 ... #Toblerone got smaller! #StandUpAndFight

John Graham @spinnerjohn couldn't believe the news. He said: "Next they'll be telling us Santa doesn't exist. #toblerone "

Mondelez said: "We chose to change the shape to keep the product affordable for our customers."

The company added: "We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products.”
