Central Perk, Chester's own coffee shop tribute to the TV show Friends, has closed its doors for good.

The Bridge Street cafe, a full scale replica of the famous one in the show, has not been open for almost two weeks, with a sign on the window saying it was closed for refurbishment.

But managers have now posted on their Facebook page that due to 'increased business rates', the shop will be closing permanently.

The post reads: "All of us at Central Perk Chester would like to thank you, our loyal patrons, for the past two years of quality custom, support and enjoyment of our premises.

"We have thoroughly enjoyed meeting and serving you and regret that our Chester store must close permanently due to increased business rates imposed by Cheshire West Council , as well as an increased rental amount for the premises, both of which are extensive and cost prohibitive.

"We wish you all the best for the future."

They went on to say that the famous replica orange sofa and coffee machine, as well as other Friends memorabilia will be up for grabs for loyal followers wishing to buy them. Interested parties are advised to email ashleyc@central-perk.co.uk.

The Chester branch of Central Perk, a popular spot with tourists, was only the second of its kind to open in the UK back in 2013. Another opened in Liverpool in September 2014.
