A Chester bar and restaurant has gained a Guinness World Record title after hosting the largest gin tasting event over multiple venues in the chain.

The Botanist, on St Werburgh Street, has officially been granted the title after their operating company, New World Trading, successfully completed the event on Thursday evening (February 11).

The night saw more than 800 people simultaneously taste a variety of gins from all over the UK at locations in the company’s portfolio. Following the tasting The Botanist threw a huge gin party to celebrate the attempt, which included gin cocktails, live music, nibbles and gin tastings.

Managing director Chris Hill said: “We’re very proud of our extensive gin offering and it was great to have gin experts in each venue to give our guests more insight into the botanicals which make Tanqueray 10, Whitley Neill and Caorunn Gin so special.”

The attempt came after the recent introduction of a gin list on The Botanist and Trading House menus, a compilation of some of the best hand-crafted gins from around the world. Gin lovers can enjoy a variety of botanical flavours in the various gins, as each is paired with garnishes that represent the perfect serve.

The event, was sponsored by Tanqueray 10, Whitley Neill, Caorunn Gin and Fever Tree.

The UK wide event is now the company’s second Guinness World Record title alongside the record awarded in July for the ‘Most varieties of rum commercially available’, achieved at The Smugglers Cove in Liverpool, with 151 different types of rum on offer.
