You can't beat afternoon tea at any time of the year - especially when it involves some naughty but nice cakes.
After all, afternoon tea has been one of Britain's many great quintessential traditions for more than 150 years.
Back in the mid-1800s it was reserved for only the most upper class in society, having been popularised by the Duchess of Bedford and her privileged friends. Lucky them.
Now, however, afternoon tea is enjoyed by all. The perfect setting for a family gathering or when you want to celebrate a birthday with your friends with a bit more decorum than a drink down your local, it's something accessible to everybody.
Usually setting up your afternoon tea involves tracking down a hotel or restaurant which offers it and hoping they have spaces months in advance. It can be a real expensive hassle.
It doesn't have to be like that anymore, though. Asda have new Afternoon Tea Summer Selection boxes.
The seasonal box of cake-y goodness is proving popular and flying off shelves.
It's not hard to see why when you consider for just £3 you get:
- Four puff pastry slices filled with custard, topped with fondant icing and yellow fondant decoration
- Four choux pastry profiteroles with lemon cream filling, topped with Belgian white chocolate fondant and white chocolate curls
- Two donuts filled with strawberry cream and strawberry jam with a sweet dusting
- The ability to host an afternoon tea every single day of the week
OK, so we added in that last bullet point, but it's true! No longer do we have to wait around for a wallet-busting occasion to indulge in a bit of afternoon tea.
Nor do we have to feel annoyed when we have a crack at making the cute cakes ourselves and realise once and for all we're not Mary Berry.
