IRVINE screen veteran Rab Affleck is set to star in a brand new TV movie at the end of this month.

The two-part film, to be shown on ITV – adapted from an Ian Rankin novel – stars Stephen Fry, Douglas Henshall and the Big Man himself.

Doors Open is Affleck’s latest screen venture and Rab, 61, insists it’s the most enjoyable film he’s worked on yet.

“This is the best project I've worked on so far. It was all fun, everyone was all laid back - even the director -everyone was enjoying themselves and the banter was terrific.”

After featuring in more than 50 films Rab finally returns to the small screen to portray the character ‘Hate’, a role that has Affleck playing a less menacing role.

“There’s no violent scenes at all. I think there's one blow struck in the whole film actually. There's lots of threatening and more about the presence of my character and it's all based around black humour - it's more like a comedy more than anything else - but there's a lot of great twists in it.

“My character is an ex-Hells Angel who turns to debt collecting because he's too old for the bikes.”

Affleck has worked with many Hollywood stars over the years including Robert De Niro, Daniel Day-Lewis, Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Craig but he’s thrilled to work with his old pal again from The Big Man, Douglas Henshall.

“Douglas was a great

guy to work with - he's a brilliant actor. When he played my brother in The Big Man and that was the first film he'd ever done he was superb.

“It has been great watching him from the boy becoming the man and he's become a terrific actor. You watch him doing his stuff and it really is great to watch.”

Despite Rab’s unconventional route into acting the boxer-turned-actor says he probably should’ve went to acting classes to aid his career.

“I've never had any acting classes, I've always just done it off the bat.I

probably should've had a go at something while I wasn't doing anything. It's like everything else - you pay for your learning, but I've always been kind of lazy that way.”
