RHYS Ifans has reportedly signed on for an unspecified role in the new James Bond movie.

There’s no confirmation yet on what role he might be playing, but the rumours are that the Ruthin actor, who became famous for his role as Hugh Grant's flatmate in Notting Hill, could be taking on the part of the eccentric gadget-creator Q, previously made famous by fellow Welshman Desmond Llewellyn. Already penned in to play the villains in Bond 23 are Javier Bardem and Ralph Fiennes.

Naomie Harris will portray Miss Moneypenny while Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench return as James Bond and M.

Ifans and Craig previously kissed each other on screen in Enduring Love.

Ifans recently finished playing The Lizard in next year's The Amazing Spider-Man.

He has made a name for himself for being versatile and the eccentricities he can bring to characters whether in Twin Town, Notting Hill, as the crackpot Harry Potter character Xenophilius Lovegood, the mad rocker in The Boat That Rocked or as the notorious Welsh drug smuggler Howard Marks in Mr. Nice.

Ifans also played Ben Stiller’s friend in a quiet performance in last year’s Greenberg.

Much of the filming for the new Bond will take place in South Africa.
