SCHOOLBOY Richard Haller was celebrating last night after being chosen as the top Harry Potter look-alike - thanks to his grandma.

Maureen Edmond, 67, and her sister Barbara Jackson, 60, were on their way to the bingo when they saw a poster for a Harry Potter competition in a shop window in Birkenhead.

Maureen sent a picture of Richard in his Harry outfit and, it weaved a spell on the judges.

Six-year-old Richard, of Irby, Wirral, beat off competition from a thousand other young hopefuls to get into the national finals.

Without even a wave of his magic wand, Richard won those, too, to scoop a dream holiday for himself and his family.

The prize he won was a trip to Disneyworld Magic Kingdom in Florida with his parents, Suzanne and Dren and one-year-old sister Elizabeth.

Suzanne, 38 said: "We couldn't believe it when we heard.

"I doubt whether we would have gone on holiday this year and magically we are going to America.

"Richard loves Harry Potter. He is always wearing his cloak and talking about spells from the moment he wakes up.

"He's been to see the films four times and he would watch them every day if we allowed him.

"His bedroom is a shrine to Harry. His nickname is now Harry and he has made up a game called Harry Potter I Spy."

Now Suzanne and Dren are considering the lucrative look-alike market for their wizard but not before he's learned a vital skill in a young magician's armoury.

"I am learning to play chess because Harry played it in the first book," said Richard.

"My dad is teaching me, because we can't play Quidditch!"

Richard is a year one pupil at Dawpool Primary School in Thurstaston, and likes football and vidoe games.

But he's now the coolest kid in town, because he has made specs a must-have item.

Suzanne said: "We're really grateful for Harry Potter because Richard's glasses are the envy of his friends.

There are kids who don't need glasses that want them now."

Maureen, from Moreton said: "When we saw the poster, we thought of Richard straight away. "It's fantastic, we didn't win bingo that night, but Richard won a better prize and now maybe he can send some of his magic our way for next time."
