We are now just days away from the Christmas lights being switched on in Chester city centre.

And there will be plenty of activities going on in the city to kick off the festive season on Thursday (November 19).

This year’s Christmas parade which has a 'Twelve Days of Christmas' theme, has been organised by CH1ChesterBID and Cheshire West and Chester Council and starts at 7pm from the Town Hall Square.

The parade route will then head down St Werburgh Street, turn right into Eastgate Street, over The Cross in to Bridge Street, left into Pepper Street, left into St John Street, then under the clock along Eastgate Street and back up Northgate Street to finish at Town Hall Square.

Chester Brass Band will be leading the parade, performing festive Christmas music including a piece that has been specially written for the occasion.

CH1ChesterBID’s Christmas elves ChELFie, ELFie and other companions will be on the look out for Santa’s Sleigh.

Free holographic glasses that transform Chester’s Christmas lights into images of candy-canes, snowflakes, reindeer, snowmen and even Father Christmas himself will also be given away during the parade.

Key points along the parade for Santa spotting will be:

Cathedral Gardens

Eastgate Street

Newgate Bridge

St Peters Church

Town Hall Square

Also included in the parade will be performers, dancers, singers, gymnasts, musicians and the Handbag of Harmonies choir as well as a partridge in a pear tree, two turtle doves, three French hens and the rest from the well-known Christmas song.

The parade coincides with the start of late night shopping in Chester, which takes place every Thursday until Christmas, and the Christmas Market which starts on the same day in Town Hall Square.
