Inspired by the human energy generated by the Tour de France having left Yorkshire earlier this month, Techniquest Glyndwr has organised a “Human Powered Day” on Sunday, July 20.
The event will be taking place at Techniquest Glyndwr in Wrexham during the week of this year’s Wrexham Science Festival from 11am-4.30pm.
Amongst the activities on the day will be Rob Wix from On-Show who will be bringing his human powered generator.
Rob will be challenging people to generate electricity using the PowerBike - a stationary bike that can power lights, a fan and even a kettle - but only if you can pedal hard enough!
Sustrans, the cyclepath charity, will be bringing their human powered smoothie maker where visitors will be able to make their own pedal powered smoothies.
Together with the smoothie maker they will be bringing lots of information about cycling in the area including leaflets about cycle paths and cycle rides in the North Wales.
John Holiday, a Sustrans volunteer and member of Chester Cycling Campaign, will be bringing a selection of out of the ordinary bikes including a recumbent, a trike, a fold-up bicycle and an early vintage bicycle.
And to demonstrate human bounce-power, a bouncy castle will be on hand for visitors to try , and there will be pedal powered go-karts available to try out on a special outdoor track set up next to Techniquest Glyndwr.
All this is in addition to the 75 plus hands on science exhibits at the popular Science Discovery Centre and live science shows through the day on Superheroes.
In this interactive live show you’ll take a look at some of the most famous characters from comic books and film, and discover creatures in real-life with the same powers.
Shows are at 1pm and 3.30pm although additional shows may be added during busy periods.
