A Chester hotel has landed a place in the UK’s leading accommodation guide.

Edgar House, situated within the city walls and overlooking the River Dee, has been officially named one of the best hotels in the North West according to The Good Hotel Guide, the latest accolade that the 19th-century villa has earned in recent months.

The boutique hotel’s bespoke furniture, glittering chandeliers and eclectic art collection were all contributing factors to this latest honour, which comes only a month after it was featured as a top 10 city hotel in the Sunday Times’ top 100 for the second consecutive year.

Judges were impressed with the way owners Tim Mills and Michael Stephen have given the place a glamorous feel, noting in particular the honesty bar housed in a refurbished telephone box, and the hotel’s spacious bedrooms with super-king-size beds, rain shower and freestanding baths.

Chef Neil Griffiths’ modern English and French dishes and the fresh breakfasts also made an impression.

Mike said of their earlier accolade: “It’s incredible, and we’ve had to pinch ourselves. We love what we do, and we are passionate about making our all of our overnight guests, and our restaurant guests, feel special and spoilt.”

The independently owned boutique riverside hotel has been open for two and a half years and last February the hotel was named 11th best place in the world to stay according to TripAdvisor.
