Car Share creator Peter Kay and his co-star, former Chester call centre worker Sian Gibson, have this week begun filming scenes for the second series of their award-winning sitcom.

Actress Sian, who currently lives in Mold, shot to fame last year during the first series of the BBC One comedy, winning audiences over with her portrayal of the ditzy but loveable Kayleigh Kitson.

The show, which follows the conversations of two supermarket colleagues on their daily commute, quickly became a ratings and critical hit, winning Best Comedy Show at the 2016 National Television Awards.

It couldn't have come at a better time for Sian, who had all but given up on acting and was working at Card One Banking in Chester when an email from her old Salford university pal Kay dropped into her inbox asking her to play promotions rep Kayleigh to Kay’s assistant manager John.

Her stint as Kayleigh saw her transcend from jobbing actor to lead character in the biggest sitcom to premiere on any channel since 2011.

Fans of Car Share will no doubt be thrilled to learn that a new series is under way, and filming has been spotted taking place in and around Bolton, Trafford and Salford.

In December, Kay had confirmed that a second series had already been written but that the production crew were waiting for brighter nights to film it due to the technical issues of filming inside a vehicle.

In a scene from the new series, Kay's character John Redmond has been spotted having a run-in with a cyclist who puts a water bottle on his roof at a set of traffic lights before speeding off.
