It might seem a bit premature to be thinking about the most wonderful time of the year – if that quintessentially Christmas song is to be believed – but the festive season will be upon us before we know it.

So we thought we'd help you get organised by telling you all you need to know about one of the most important dates on the calendar for Chester this Yuletide – the return of the Christmas Market.

Town Hall Square will be transformed into a veritable Winter Wonderland for one whole month from Friday, November 18 to Sunday, December 18.

And the Christmas lights switch-on will take place the night before the market opens so the city will be lit up a treat for its duration.

The market will be open seven days a week: 10am to 6pm from Sunday to Wednesday; with late-night shopping on Thursdays until 8pm; and until 7pm on Friday and Saturday.

More than 70 traditional wooden chalets housing local artisans and producers are set to surround a sparkling Christmas tree.

Perfect stocking fillers like crafts and jewellery will be on offer, so it's a good place to do a spot of shopping ahead of the big day while warming up with a mulled wine or hot chocolate.

Organisers are promising it will be 'bigger and better than ever', so pop these dates in your diary and look forward to toasting Christmas 2016 with a gluhwein.
