Mold's Clwyd Theatr Cymru will be transported back in time to the London of the 1930s as the Dee and Alyn Gilbert and Sullivan Society perform the musical Me and My Girl.

More than 40 amateur thespians from across the region have been rehearsing hard since February polishing the romantic comedy musical which was a major West End and Broadway hit.

The Dee and Alyn show’s director Angela Anthony says the cast have worked really hard during rehearsals at Northop village hall and the show promises to be one of the best they have ever staged.

Angela, of Queensferry who teaches at Whitby High School in Ellesmere Port, said: “The cast is made up of people from all walks of life who have something in common, a love of acting and performing.

“Me and My Girl is such a delightful and heart-warming story and there are some seriously good performances from all the cast who have put everything into a really professional show worthy of the Clwyd Theatr Cymru stage.”

Bethany D’Avincourt Smith, of Oxton in Wirral, who plays Lady Jaqueline, says the musical, which includes songs such as The Lambeth Walk and The Sun Has Got His Hat On, has proved technically difficult but a lot of fun.

She said: “It’s a fantastic story and there’s lot of comedy and laughs involved as well as some great songs and dances. I’m sure audiences at all five performances will thoroughly enjoy what is a great show.

“The cast involves people of all ages and from all walks of life. And as well as a large Flintshire contingent we have people from Chester and the Wirral too.”

She added; “If you haven’t been to the theatre before then this is a great show to go and see while regular theatre-goers will know what a brilliant story this is.

“I’d just encourage people to buy a ticket, come and enjoy a great night out and join us on the Lambeth Walk!”

Me and My Girl will be performed at Clwyd Theatr Cymru between Wednesday, June 11 and Saturday June 14.
